And if ever I return again it will be in spring is a piece about forgotten music.
To form the material for this piece, I used an archival recording of the Lyke Wake Dirge, a funeral song originating from North Yorkshire. I placed the audio file into Ableton and used software to degrade the audio multiple times over. The resultant effect was a chime like reduction of the original audio file. I then layered this new audio multiple times in canon and printed the canon to a single file. By then asking Ableton to interpret the canon as a MIDI file, it produced a vast network of harmonies to build the violin line from.
